A previous winner for us at NCC-WORLD  was our screening of the funny, charming French features “The Intouchables”, and we’re delighted to say the directors have returned to give us “C’est La Vie” – yet another bright and breezy comedy, this time about a disgruntled caterer working his last wedding event. Directing duo powerhouse Olivier Nakache & Eric Toledano are new-wave masters of the old-fashioned farce style of character comedy, but with added French flair and finesse – the set-pieces are a joy, each beautifully crafted character is a delight on screen, and the laughs come thick & fast.

Bubbly, smartly-plotted, and with plenty of joie de vivre, and with dialogue that sparkles like the fizzy vino being (copiously) consumed onscreen, C’est La Vie injects the tried & tested tropes of almost sitcom-style situationalist comedy with an invigorating Gallic shot in the arm. Not a weak link in the cast either, with perfectly observed turns from a selection of unwanted wedding guests, and the savvy, wisecracking behind-the-scenes staff.  Like a memorable holiday in the South of France, this is sunny, beautiful, and lots of fun
