Stealing the show, unsurprisingly, in this revisit to everyone’s favourite bear with little brain, is not only the wonderful Ewan McGregor, here in the title role delivering the perfect mix of warm humour tinged with nostalgic sadness, but also Jim Cummings, as the voice of the sage Pooh from Hundred Acre Wood.
This snuggly revival to the much loved characters of AA Milne is as cosy as a favourite jumper; the story focuses on an adult Christopher Robin, who is now focused on his new life, work, and family, and who suddenly meets his old friend Winnie the Pooh, and in turn goes back to his unforgotten childhood past, to help him return to the Hundred Acre Wood and help find Pooh's lost friends. Possibly piggybacking the incredible successes of his fellow ursine Paddington Bear, and his recent cinematic endeavours, this new Pooh tale has much going for it – a welcome addition to the continuing fable of these iconic characters, with pitch perfect VO work from Cummings and his cronies, and a delightful turn from McGregor as an adult Robin, ready in life to revisit his childhood pals.
It drops in delightfully amongst the Disney chapters of Pooh’s adventures, and is a family winner crafted with love and care.
