From producer Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes this nail-biting thriller, starring newcomer Kaya Scodelario & Barry Pepper as the endangered Floridian father & daughter facing several perils at once, as their home is destroyed and sunk by a Grade 5 hurricane.

Discovering Dad is severely injured in the bowels of the family home, Haley (a feisty and fearless Scodelario) swerves the incoming evacuation warnings to rescue him, only to find them now both in severe danger from the rising flood waters – not to mention a few uninvited & somewhat snappy houseguests as well. The humour & expertise of Raimi hangs heavy throughout this solid creature feature, and the running time flies by as our heroine battles to save herself and the old man from a wealth of possible horrible demises.

Crawl is almost old-fashioned as a single-location survival/horror thriller, but the expertise in its telling means the suspense genuinely never lets up throughout – this is fast, terrifying, rushy stuff, that proudly wears its  influences on its (soaking wet) sleeves. A proper popcorn spiller & relentless to the very last splash – great craic.
