This innovative & supremely creepy take on the “found-footage” format, is the highly impressive debut of director Aislinn Clarke. Full of smart, stylish cinematography & whip-smart scares, “Devil’s Doorway” is set in Ireland at the beginning of the 60’s, and tells the tale of two priests despatched from The Vatican, to investigate a mysterious & unsettling event that has occurred at a home for "fallen women,"; suffice to say that what they ultimately encounter, far, far exceeds their expectations – and not in a happy way.
Despite it’s relatively short screen-time, Clarke’s first feature is a fine debut, full of directorial promise & a keen understanding of how to successfully translate fear into film. Bolstered by two strong leads in Lalor Roddy as the appropriately-named doubting priest Father Thomas, and the Nurse Ratchet-like Mother Superior, played here with gusto by Helena Bereen, this Exorcist-style update is a fresh & vibrant horror, full of ideas, that marks director Clarke out as a new female directorial talent to watch on the scene
