Honeyland

Original title: Medena zemja

Talk about Oscar buzz - this spirited, conservationist Macedonian documentary made Academy Awards history no less, by being the first ever film to receive a nomination in both the Best International Feature Film & Best Documentary Feature at the 2020 ceremony. An incredible achievement, considering the humble subject matter involved in Tamara Kotevska & Ljubomir Stefanov's quiet, intimate yet intense work.

Centred around the life of lonesome wild beekeeper Hatidže Muratova, Honeyland is a commentary on life for her both before and after neighbours move in nearby; the impact on her lifestyle & work, and of course the bigger picture environmentally for us all. Compelling, vital, assured documenary work that resonates on multiple levels - sweet as honey but with a sting in its tail.
