Eat My Shorts - Terms & Conditions
NCC’s Eat My Shorts Film Competition is open to any anyone aged 13 or over and resident in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Entrants must be 13 or over on 30 October 2020. Entrants aged 17 or under on 30 September 2020 must provide details of a parent or guardian who has given their permission. Entries from outside NI or ROI will not be accepted.
NCC Committee Members and staff of the competition sponsor Fibrus cannot enter, but their families, Volunteer Members of NCC and their families can enter. No undue preference will be given to entries from members of NCC or their families or Fibrus staff family members.
The competition is open to amateur filmmakers only. Amateur filmmakers are people who have not been previously credited or paid for their work in film, television or video production. This applies to all actors, production workers and musicians.
An entry can be from an individual or groups of friends/schoolmates with one person entering on their behalf. If a group enters, all individuals in the group must meet the eligibility criteria, and must be credited in the film so that we can check that anyone who has helped make your film also meets these criteria.
The competition opened in September 2020. Entries must be submitted via the online portal and registration form at www.newcastlecinema.org/eatmyshorts.
Entries require: A new, original film no longer than 2 minutes including credits, uploaded to a web-based video-sharing site (eg: YouTube, Vimeo, dailymotion) with the URL link submitted via the Entry Form. Completed fully with: Your film’s title including tagline – sum up your short film in a sentence. URL link to your film from a web-based video-sharing site. 150 word summary of the idea behind your film. Full credits of everyone involved in making your film. Full contact details of the entrant. If the entrant is aged 17 or under, details of a parent or guardian who has given permission for this entry.
PLEASE NOTE: By sending this entry form, entrants declare that they and all participants are amateur; that the film is a new production, using only unpublished or fully cleared material; that they agree to these terms and conditions; and that they have permission from all participants for their contribution. Music Reporting Form can be found within the Eat My Shorts online portal & registration form – with full details of all music used, including original compositions. You must have permission to use production music licensed by the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) and you must obtain a licence for online use before you upload your film to any video sharing website. This costs money, so it may be easier to use original music or no music. For more information on licensing and the fees required please visit: www.prsformusic.com/licences Music licensed under Creative Commons or from other “royalty free” sources can be used but you must follow its rules of use and include in the credits.
It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that their film can be viewed via the link on the video-sharing service. NCC cannot take responsibility for the unavailability of the service chosen. NCC cannot take responsibility for any uploaded content if breaks the terms and conditions of the video-sharing service.
Closing time for entries is 6pm on Friday 30 October 2020. Submissions received after this time will not be accepted. Don’t wait until the last minute to send your submission!
Only one entry per entrant. Multiple entries will not be considered. Only the first entry will be considered.
Films must meet the BBFC’s “U classification” as set out on the BBFC website: www.bbfc.co.uk/what-classification/u Films must not contain defamatory, obscene, violent or any other unsuitable material.
Films must be a maximum of 2 minutes long in duration, including credits.
Films must be a new production using only unpublished material. Any films that are found to have been previously published, before the competition opened, will be disqualified.
All entries must not breach any third party copyright. This means no commercial video, music or photos can be included. However, if you use production music licensed through the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS), you must obtain permission or clearances before you upload your film to any video-sharing website. Obtaining permission to use production music for online use costs money. Original music is fine to use and it must be fully credited in your music reporting form. Music licensed under creative commons or from other “royalty free” sources can be used for this competition provided you follow the rules for use and credit it. Also, your film must not promote trademarked products, including logos, toys and recognisable film characters. PLEASE NOTE: NCC accepts no liability if entrants ignore these rules. If they do ignore them, entrants agree to compensate NCC for any harm or loss which result from any claims by any third party arising from any breach of these rules.
All entrants have full rights over their film as the original creator. Each entrant gives permission to NCC to use the film in connection with the competition, including permission to publicise the film (including by broadcasting and via the internet). This includes permission to use stills from the film in publicity. The permission will end if the film is not included in the shortlist to be published in October 2020.
Anyone appearing in the film must be aware they were being filmed and they must give their permission. It is the entrant’s responsibility to inform all participants that the film will be uploaded to the internet. If the judges decide that the people in the film are not aware of they are being filmed, or are humiliated or are embarrassed in any way, NCC reserves the right to disqualify the entry.
Additional evidence may be required in order to verify an entrant’s identity, age and residence. This may include a valid passport or driving licence or phone bill.
Films will be judged on the following criteria: Your Idea: how good is the initial written concept? Does it meet “U” classification? Creativity: which can include all aspects of filmmaking: from story to script, to location and cinematography. Execution: how well does your film achieve what you set out to do?
All entries will be viewed by members of the judging panel. For the main prizes, they will shortlist 5 films and select the Top 3. For the Into Film Schools prize, they will shortlist 3 and select one. Neither the competition sponsor Fibrus or Schools Prize sponsor Into Film will not be involved in the judging.
Your work should be filmed in at least 720 High Definition. If your film is shortlisted, it will be screened on a full size theatrical screen. You can upload a versions in a lower resolution and if requested, provide the higher resolution version. If a suitable version cannot be provided, the NCC reserves the right not to shortlist that entry and shortlist another entry in its place.
The names of the entrants for shortlisted submissions and their films will be published on NCC’s website in November 2020, if there is time. Shortlisted films may also appear on other online platforms, such as NCC’s Facebook page, as part of the promotion for this competition. Entrants being considered for the shortlist may be contacted before this date to verify their work as original and to ensure all relevant permissions have been gained to enable NCC to publish their films. If an entrant cannot be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, NCC will consider the next best entry for the shortlist instead.
The prizes are as stated and cannot be deferred or transferred.
NCC will disqualify any entry which breaks any of these Terms and Conditions.
NCC will only ever use personal details for this competition, and, in accordance with the GDPR and Data Protection Act, will not publish them or provide them to anyone else without permission. The names of the winning and shortlisted films and film-makers will be made public.
NCC reserves the right to cancel this competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside its control. In this event, a notice will be posted on NCC’s website.
NCC’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted.
