Rights of Nature
Film & Discussion
Film & Discussion - Not rated / 40m / Documentary / 2021
We’re all familiar with human rights, but does nature have rights? The human world views nature as a resource to be extracted and exploited, creating environmental devastation. This documentary by Environmental Justice Network Ireland explores how we can re-think this dynamic away from dominance to sharing and regeneration. Introduced by singer songwriter John Spillane, we meet the frontline activists, lawyers and academics using the legal rights of nature to fight to protect our land, forests and lakes in Ireland and beyond.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Declan Owens who is a climate justice lawyer specialising in earth-centred law, trade union law and human rights. He is CEO of Ecojustice Ireland, a community interest company, advocating for a Just Transition for workers and communities.

Kiss the Ground
Film & Discussion
Film & Discussion - PG / 1h 24m / Documentary / 2020
Narrated by Woody Harrelson, this documentary sheds light on regenerative agriculture, a ‘new, old approach’ to farming. An underground (pun intended) movement of activists, scientists, farmers and politicians have banded together in a game-changer movement to re-balance our climate, replenish our water supplies and feed the world.
After the film, there will be a presentation about soil regenerative methods for us to apply to our back gardens as well as to agriculture.
Film & Discussion - 12 / 1h 30m / Documentary / 2019
Join Inna Modja, the Malian musician and climate activist, on an epic journey along Africa’s Great Green Wall, an ambitious vision to plant a wall of trees stretching 4,300 miles across the continent.
She passes through Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, Niger and Ethiopia witnessing the acute consequences of land degradation and climate change – the impacts the Great Green Wall aims to combat.
After the film, Bronagh Gallagher from The Woodland Trust will talk about trees, the Trust and the ancient forests of Mourne Park.
On Monday 20 June, Bronagh will host a group in Mourne Park and introduce them to the forest and the Trust’s plans.
