Calling all amateur filmmakers on the island of Ireland! NCC is coming out of lockdown with a short film competition, EAT MY SHORTS. Make the most of the staycation to flex your movie-making muscles and get out your phone or camera to create a mini movie. NCC is delighted to be sponsored by Fibrus, the company bringing Hyperfast Full Fibre Broadband to rural Northern Ireland, to bring you Eat My Shorts Short Film Competition. NCC challenges amateur filmmakers to create a short original film, no more than 2 minutes in duration, which meets the U certificate. Include a short written summary that sets out what you hope to achieve with your film. Judges will consider: your initial idea, as set out in your written summary; creativity in all aspects of your film; execution - how well your film achieves what you set out to do. Your film can be any genre, any style, any topic. New Prize for Schools just added...
We are delighted to announce an additional prize for schools & school-age entries - Into Film Schools Prize of £300.School groups or school-age individuals are eligible for this special prize as well as the other three prizes. Into Film is a UK-wide supporter of getting young people interested in film and cinema, and wants to see lots of entries to Eat My Shorts from young filmmakers. With half-term break coming up, we have extended the deadline to Friday 30 October 2020.
Your film must comply with the U classification of the British Board of Film Classification - www.bbfc.co.uk Entrants must be aged 13 or over and resident in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Entrants aged 17 or under will need permission from a parent or guardian to take part.Entrants must be amateur filmmakers only. This means only people who have not been previously credited or paid for their work in film, video or television production. The competition is open to individuals, families or groups of friends, but all participants must be amateur, including actors and musicians.

Niamh McGrady
Castlewellan-born actor who appeared in the critically acclaimed production of Macbeth alongside Patrick Stewart (Star-Tek, X-Men) in both the West End then on Broadway. Niamh has appeared in award winning TV programmes Holby City and The Fall alongside Gillian Anderson (X Files) and Jamie Dornan (50 Shades of Grey)
Dr Jennie Carlsten
teaches and researches Irish and Northern Irish cinema at Ulster University, with special interests in screen emotion and community cinema. She also works at Film Hub NI supporting member cinemas and researching the community cinema sector. Jennie is a member of the Irish Screen Studies Board, and used to work as a projectionist and cinema manager.
Maria Brennan
has been working with access>CINEMA for 4 years as Film Programme Administrator. She holds a MA from Huston School of Film & Digital Media, NUI Galway. As well as her love of all things film she a practising Visual Artist specialising in paint. Her favourite film genre is Documentary but has a particular love for animation.
Campbell Miller
is a local director and writer. Known for award winning films such as Respite for Christmas, Poison Tree and Family and Hope. His debut feature docudrama Bravery Under Fire was released in 2018
