A Quiet Love
Kicking off our festival in unforgettable style, A Quiet Love is a moving, groundbreaking documentary that follows three Deaf couples, each navigating love, family, and life’s extraordinary challenges. Told in a mixture of Irish and British Sign Language, with open captions, the film offers a rare, intimate glimpse into experiences often unseen.
John & Agnes ( from The Silent Valley area ) , a long-married, mixed-religion couple, reflect on life together and the realities of living through the Troubles. Michelle & Kathy share their journey as a same-sex couple, from IVF to raising both hearing and Deaf daughters. Deaf boxer Seán and his hearing partner Deyanna face a profoundly difficult choice, revealing the pressures and joys of their intertwined lives.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to join a guest Q+A with John & Agnes. The Q+A will include BSL interpretation, with thanks to Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and Coimisiún na Meán for access support, offering a unique opportunity to hear directly from the couple behind this remarkable story.
Ultimately, A Quiet Love celebrates resilience, belonging, and love in all its forms.
