A brand-new monthly filmmaking club for young creatives aged 10+, packed with ideas, cameras, creativity and hands-on movie-making, as they learn the tricks of the trade and take their own films from first spark of inspiration all the way to the Full Moon Film Festival big screen

Join our monthly filmmaking club for ages 10+ at Newcastle Community Cinema and make a short movie that will be screened at next year's Full Moon Film Festival!
Starting Tuesday 20th October, 6.00pm–8.00pm, young filmmakers will work with WheelWorks artist and videographer Corey McKinney to learn how to use professional camera and audio recording equipment; how to work in teams as a film crew, and how to plan, act, shoot, and direct their own films.
Get hands on with lights, tripods, editing equipment, green screens, and more in fun sessions and meet other young filmmakers – whether making a thrilling spy flick, out of this world sci-fi movie, a thoughtful documentary, or any type of film that comes to mind!
Sessions will take place on the third Tuesday of every month on the following dates: Tuesday 20th October, Tuesday 17th November, Tuesday 15th December, Tuesday 19th January, Tuesday 16th February, and Tuesday 16th March.

Session 1: Lights, Camera… Ideas!

Jump straight into the world of filmmaking! Get hands-on with cameras and sound equipment, discover who does what on a film set, throw some big ideas around and start turning the group’s favourites into a short film concept of their very own.
Session 2: From Idea to Action
Tuesday 17th November
It’s time to turn that great idea into something we can actually shoot. Develop the story and characters, create storyboards and shot lists, choose crew roles and map out exactly how the film will come to life on screen.
Session 3: Cameras Roll!
Tuesday 15th December
Action! The shoot begins as our young filmmakers get behind and in front of the camera. Learn framing, camera operation and sound recording while discovering what it really takes to work together as a film crew and capture a scene.
Session 4: The Big Shoot Continues
Tuesday 19th January 2027
Back on set to bring the rest of the story to life. Complete the main shoot, experiment with different shots and ideas, review what’s already in the can and make sure we’ve captured everything needed to tell our story.
Session 5: Movie Magic
Tuesday 16th February 2027
This is where it all starts coming together. Head into the edit suite to transform the footage into a finished film, learning about editing, pacing, music, sound and colour while seeing just how much a movie can change in post-production.
Session 6: Final Cut to the Big Screen
Tuesday 18th May 2027
Last-minute pick-ups, final edits and finishing touches! Then it’s time to get the completed film ready for the moment every filmmaker wants: seeing their work up on the cinema screen as part of NCC’s Full Moon Film Festival.
Movie Makers Film Premiere

And for the grand finale, our young filmmakers get the ultimate payoff: seeing their very own films up where they belong, on the NCC Big Screen! The completed movies will receive their festival premiere at NCC’s annual Full Moon Film Festival, with a special showcase celebrating all the films created during the course.

We’re delighted to be teaming up with WheelWorks, one of Northern Ireland’s leading creative youth arts organisations, to help our budding filmmakers turn their big-screen ideas into reality.
WheelWorks brings together the arts and cutting-edge digital technology, giving young people hands-on access to everything from filmmaking, animation and photography to movie special effects, digital art, music and much more.
At the heart of their work is a brilliantly simple idea: Creating New Worlds. By putting industry-standard technology into the hands of young people, alongside experienced creative artists, they provide the skills, confidence and space to experiment, collaborate and discover where their creativity might take them.
For NCC Film Club, that means plenty of imagination, proper filmmaking kit and expert guidance as our young creatives make that all-important journey from “I’ve got an idea…” to seeing their finished movie on the NCC Big Screen!
Christmas Wreaths with SV Blooms
This December, come learn a new skill with Susan from SV Blooms and create a stunning winter wreath to adorn your front door. Made sustainably on a moss base, this wreath will last all winter and even into the new year, when you can refresh it in time for spring.
Robin felting workshop with Artist Jennifer Cunningham
Come along and make your very own felted robin to decorate your tree. Dundrum artist Jennifer Cunningham will take you through the basic process of needle felting using wool fibres to create a small felted robin. All materials provided. This session is suitable for beginners and people of all ages over 7 yrs. Refreshments provided
2D Animation
In this workshop, children learn how to make a full 2D animated film with iPads with digital styluses.
The workshop also comprises advice on how to draw better characters and achieve convincing movements, taught by a professional animator.
Cartoon Character Development
Using our iPads and drawing materials, this workshop is ideal for those want to improve their drawing techniques, and learn about the basics of character creation for animation and comics.
Lego Animation (afternoon)
These mini animation master classes by Can Do Academy are a great introduction for children to the colourful world of Lego animation!
The workshop will allow participants to make a complete animated Lego film on an iPad, using sound effects, visual effects, titles and lots of imagination!
